Material Cabinet - FA20

Integrated mobile material library · Offline material preparation & complete changeover · Smart interaction & status management

The material magazine designed for feeding an odd‑form component inserter is a core material management and supply system specifically built for Through‑Hole Technology (THT) production lines. Serving as a dedicated "mobile material warehouse" for automatic odd‑form insertion machines (which handle non‑standard, non‑taped vertical/horizontal components such as large capacitors, inductors, connectors, transformers, etc.), its core mission is to achieve high‑density component storage, rapid complete changeover, and precise supply—thereby resolving the changeover efficiency bottleneck inherent in traditional THT production.

The device serves as an intelligent hub connecting material storage with the high‑speed component inserter, specifically designed to manage odd‑form components that cannot be fed using standard tape‑and‑reel packaging.

Main Functional Process:

  • Centralized material handling:
The magazine provides a large number of standardized material slots. Each slot can hold either a tape reel (for tape‑fed components) or a tube (for tube‑fed components). A single magazine can centrally store all or most of the odd‑form components required for one PCB assembly.

  • Offline parallel preparation:
This is its revolutionary mode of operation. Operators can pre‑load all components for the next production task onto another spare magazine at an offline preparation area outside the production line, without affecting normal operation of the current line.

  • Rapid complete changeover:
When switching products, there is no need to stop the machine and replace individual feeders one by one. Instead, the current online magazine is slid out along guide rails, and the pre‑loaded spare magazine is slid into place, precisely docking with the inserter's pick‑and‑place head or feeder interface.

  • Status monitoring & error‑proofing:
Modern intelligent magazines integrate sensors or identification systems (e.g., barcode/RFID) to monitor real‑time status of each material slot (e.g., low‑material warning) and verify component type and position with the inserter control system, enabling error‑proofing and traceability.

Pain Points Solved:

Traditional odd‑form component loading relies on manual operation beside the machine, which presents three major problems: long changeover time (hours), high risk of loading wrong components, and low machine utilization. The material magazine system applies the concept of "complete die‑change" (quick changeover), transforming changeover into a fast, reliable, and standardized operation.

☆  Achieve minute‑level changeover, maximizing Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE):
The inserter is a high‑value asset on the production line. The material magazine system offlines the most time‑consuming material preparation work, thereby reducing the inserter’s downtime during changeover to an absolute minimum (only the few minutes required to move and dock the magazines). This directly and significantly increases the machine’s net operating time and utilization rate, making it the most effective lever for improving OEE.

Build flexible manufacturing cells for agile response to high‑mix production:
By equipping multiple pre‑loaded magazines each dedicated to a different product, the production line gains the ability to switch products as easily as “changing a game cartridge.” This perfectly aligns with the modern manufacturing trend of small‑batch, high‑mix production, dramatically shortening lead times and enhancing the enterprise’s agility in responding to market changes.

Achieve standardization and error‑proofing, ensuring quality and traceability:
The magazine enforces standardized and fixed material loading. Combined with intelligent identification technology, it ensures absolute consistency among “material – slot – program,” fundamentally eliminating manual loading errors. Meanwhile, all material usage and change records are kept electronically, providing a reliable data foundation for product quality traceability and advanced production scheduling management.
