Server Power Supply Automated Production Line

The automated production line designed by Guanjia for a 3C manufacturer's server power supplies encompasses 25 individual process steps, with a total line length of 65 metres. This server power supply automatic line is a fully intelligent whole‑line system covering the entire process from PCB loading to finished product screw locking. It integrates automated loading and unloading, intelligent assembly and inspection, data traceability, and material flow management. The line supports flexible manufacturing for power supplies with power ratings ranging from 200W to 3000W and accommodates multiple form factors, including ATX, CRPS, 1U, and 2U.

Project Overview

Project Background

The client is a globally renowned LED power supply manufacturer. Amidst intensifying market competition and diversifying consumer demands, the client is confronted with the following challenges:

Low manual operation efficiency, making it difficult to meet growing market demand.

Inconsistent product quality due to manual handling, resulting in a relatively high defect rate.

High power consumption during testing, leading to increased operational costs.

Untimely production data collection, hindering real‑time monitoring and optimisation.

To address these issues, the client has decided to adopt an automated burn‑in line solution, aiming to enhance production efficiency and product quality while reducing energy consumption.

Equipment Overview and Core Capabilities

1.This server power supply automatic line is a fully intelligent whole‑line system covering the entire process from PCB loading to finished product screw locking. It integrates automated loading/unloading, intelligent assembly and inspection, data traceability, and material flow management, supporting flexible manufacturing for power supplies with power ratings ranging from 200W to 3000W and accommodating multiple form factors including ATX, CRPS, 1U, and 2U.

2.The entire line adopts a layout combining roller chains, double‑speed chains, and standardised pallet carriers, with robotic handling, insertion, vision inspection, semi‑finished product testing, conformal coating and curing, and precision fastening as core units. It is paired with a PLC central control system, an MES data interface module, and an RFID product tracking system to achieve fully automated operations from PCB entry to finished product off‑line.

3.The overall automation rate of the line can reach 70%–80%, with only a limited number of manual operations retained for auxiliary loading/unloading and insertion. It enables unmanned material flow across all process steps, with a stable mass‑production takt time. The line is adaptable to various annual production capacities ranging from 100,000 to 500,000 units, and supports single‑shift, double‑shift, and triple‑shift continuous operation. It significantly reduces labour dependence and addresses the pain points of recruitment difficulties and low manual efficiency.

4.Leveraging technologies such as 3D vision positioning, AOI visual inspection, torque‑closed‑loop fastening, and glue‑path visual inspection, the line strictly controls insertion accuracy, soldering quality, conformal coating trajectory and thickness, and screw fastening torque. Assembly defects such as misplacement, omission, uneven torque, and poor contact are eliminated at source. The first‑pass yield rate of finished products consistently exceeds 99.8%.

5.The line has established a quality traceability system based on the principle of “one product, one code, full‑process binding, and lifelong traceability”. Using the unique QR code or laser‑engraved code on each PCB as the sole identity identifier, key process parameters, inspection results, and equipment status are automatically collected at each critical node from bare board loading to finished product off‑line. These data are permanently bound to the product SN code and uploaded to the MES system.

This equipment is applicable to five major application scenarios: AI computing centres, hyperscale data centres, brand server manufacturers, edge computing, and military/aerospace sectors. It is compatible with the full range of CRPS, ATX, EPS, and DC‑DC product families, meeting the full‑cycle production needs from mass‑production ramp‑up to new product trial runs.

Suitable Manufacturers Include:

  • Leading Power Supply Manufacturers: Addressing the challenges of high labour costs and yield bottlenecks, the solution enables a 75% reduction in headcount, achieves a first‑pass yield of ≥99.5%, and supports rapid global replication.

  • ODM/OEM Contract Manufacturers:  Resolving pain points such as slow changeover and thin profit margins, it delivers rapid model changeover, an ROI of 10‑14 months, barcode‑based error prevention, and phased investment options.

  • Complete Server Manufacturers:  Mitigating supply chain risks and meeting customisation requirements, it ensures independent control over core components, flexible customisation, and full‑process traceability.

  • New Entrants / Capacity Expanders:  Ideal for enterprises transitioning from consumer power supplies or expanding production capacity. It addresses the pain points of limited experience and high audit thresholds, offering turnkey solutions, standard process libraries, and client endorsements.

  • Special‑Purpose / Custom Power Supply Manufacturers: Suitable for manufacturers in military, medical, automotive, and other speciality sectors, it resolves the challenges of manual dependency and difficult audit traceability, providing force‑sensing and vision‑guided assembly, as well as full archiving of critical process parameters.
